  ABC's of My Day

ABC's of My Day is a discipline policy that keeps a record of your child's behavior and actions throughout the day. It is important for the children to take responsibility for their behavior and to control their own actions each day. My goal is to help the children become careful thinkers and self directed learners. I want to support the children in developing good values and to help them to reflect on their behavior. This discipline policy is based on the children making wise choices for themselves. During the first few weeks of school, we will be talking often about "good" choices and "poor" choices and the consequences of these choices on themselves and their classmates.

At the end of each day, the children will evaluate themselves on how they acted throughout the day. They will evaluate themselves on attitude, behavior and community building. I will be discussing with the children what is expected for all three categories. On the 2nd or 3rd day of school you will find a paper in your child's take-home folder entitled, the ABC's of My Day. Your child will color next to each category, green (Super), yellow (warning), red(STOP-Behavior needs to change) or blue(unacceptable). If they have an unacceptable day, a note will go home describing the behavior that was unacceptable. This will keep you informed of how they are doing in the classroom. If the children make a decision that is different from how I feel they have behaved, they will be asked to change their decision. If they choose not to change their decision, I will mark SD next to their choice for strongly disagree. Please discuss with the children how they are doing and sign the sheet at the end of each week.

It is my hope that this policy will help the children to make positive choices that will enhance their self esteem and allow them to coexist peacefully within the classroom.
