Interim reports are around the corner.  The day after interim reports go home, we go from “learning” the rules to “knowing” the rules. Which means our chart changes from “Loosing your Britches” to the “Stoplight” system. In the past, pulling just one pin was considered “super” because the student learned from the mistake and did not make it again. Now they will be put their clip on the “green light” which, if they still change their behavior will still go on the ABC’s as green.  However, they will loose 5 minutes of recess if they are on green. If they continue to misbehave, their clip will move up the “Stoplight” to yellow, then red.  Yellow, which is just “OK”, will also accompany a 10 minute time out from recess and red, which is still “Unacceptable”, will earn a 15 minute time out and a note home.

On a more fun note, Halloween is just around the corner.  The costume parade is scheduled for Wednesday, October 31st at 1:15. Please have your children choose a non-violent costume for the parade (no weapons of any sort are allowed!)  Costumes for the parade are to be brought into the classroom in a plastic bag.  Children will PLACE COSTUMES OVER THEIR UNIFORMS after eating lunch. (Please test to see that this will work with your child’s costume, as children will not be allowed to go to the bathrooms to change!) I’m certain that room mothers will be in touch as they organize our Halloween Party, which is scheduled for right after the parade.

Because we have a field trip scheduled for November, we will be offering our “Crash Course in Chaperoning” on WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 24, once at 3:15pm and then again at 6:30pm in Ms. Morton’s room (Room 109). Any parent who expects to chaperone MUST attend one of the sessions.

That’s about all for the month of October. We’ve all been looking forward to the cool, brisk weather of Autumn … let’s hope it’s here to stay!

Thanks for your continued support!

Ms. Hanley
